Our arrival and stay in Kathmandu coincided with the seven political parties planned demonstrations to protest King Gyandendra's seizure of direct powers the previous year. The only transportation available to us was arranged by our in country outfitter. The vehicles had to have permits and banners indicating their authorization to ply the roads in Kathmandu.
