Every fall, around 70,000 cranes arrive to the Hula valley from Russia. In the past, all of them used to continue ahead to Africa. However, about a decade ago some cranes decided that they like the Hula Valley, and today, about quarter of the cranes that arrive there in fall, decide to stay for the winter. The reason for this phenomenon is not yet clear.
