I depart Pahrump Nevada via rental car on 6/22 for a quick recon of Death Valley before tomorrow's planned start. The colorful badlands of Zabriskie Point greet me upon arrival. At 4pm it's 113F says the car's digital thermometer and the park's lowest elevations still lie beneath me.
