Album Info:

20 April 2008, Rodeo Lagoon, Marin County, California. I digiscoped this Dark-eyed Junco during a field trip for my Ornithology class. This male appeared to be on territory. Marin County breeding birds are usually considered to be the race J. h. thurberi, but they may intergrade with J. h. pinosus to the south. The latter have a darker gray hood in the males, and more reddish back and flanks. Both are members of the "Oregon Junco" group which was formerly split as a separate species. Post processing included noise reduction using the "Noise Ninja" Photoshop plugin. Panasonic DMC-LZ5 / Nikon FS 3 / 30XWA / hand-held, no adapter.
