Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes)

Album Info:
9 September 2006 - Pescadero Creek, San Mateo County, California. The Lesser Yellowlegs is an uncommon migrant and rare winter visitor to California where it is greatly outnumbered by the similar, but larger Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca). Today we saw three of these Lesser Yellowlegs, all in juvenal plumage. Curiously the Greater Yellowlegs in the same area were all adults. Olympus D-550z / Nikon FieldScope 3 / 30XWA (hand-held - no adapter).
