14 May 2007 - Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ohio This was a very common migrant in the area, but they seldom sat still for a picture. This one took off just as I snapped the photo. This species was discovered and named by Alexander Wilson who collected the type specimen in a magnolia tree in Mississippi. However, the bird breeds in dense boreal forests and seldom is seen in magnolias. It does not appear to be closely related to any other Dendroica warbler. Here I tried a new technique using curves on the green channel (desaturating the green hue did not work) to remove the green artifact that has been plaguing my Magee Marsh photos, especially those shot at 12X in low light. Unfortunately, the high zoom on this camera introduced a number of unwanted artifacts including color aberration. This photo was taken using Evaluative metering before I switched to Aperture Priority which improved the color balance somewhat in later photos. This photo is scaled, but uncropped and unsharpened.
