BLUE-CROWNED MOTMOT (Momotus momota bahamensis)

Album Info:
14 January 2007 - Blue Waters Inn, Tobago This portrait is resized but uncropped. The subspecies M. m. bahamensis is confined to Trinidad and Tobago and is distinguished by its deep cinnamon-brown underparts. The birds on Tobago, such as this one, looked even darker to me. It's interesting to compare this one taken on Tobago with the one I posted earlier from Trinidad. Not only do the birds on the two islands look different, but they are found in different habitats. On Trinidad they are confined to deep forests, but on Tobago they inhabit more open areas. Nevertheless, these richly cinnamon-colored Tobago bird are classified as the same subspecies as the ones in Trinidad. Olympus D-550z / Nikon FieldScope 3 / 30XWA (hand-held - no adapter).
