Orange-crowned Warbler (Vermivora celata celata)
joemorlan > albums > Texas - Jan 2006
Album Info:
18 January 2006 - Salineno, Texas. This jumpy, plain little bird was very common but not easy to digiscope. Novice birders often find it confusing and not a good match for their field guides. The orange crown which gives this species its name is usually concealed, especially in the non-breeding season. The face pattern is quite distinctive, but usually not well illustrated in field guide paintings. This is a subtle bird. Notice the broad blurry streaks on the underparts. The contrasting pale yellow alula at the bend of the wing is typical.
