Album Info:
After 98 days en route and travelling over 1100 miles, the last overnight stop for the cranes is at Halpata-Tastanaki Preserve, two miles from this airport where the flyover will take place on a very cold and cloudy Sunday morning. The final leg of their journey to Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge will take place on Monday. The birds will stay there in a 4 acre open and protected pen until sometime in April when they follow nature's call to return to Wisconsin on their own. Breeding centers throughout North America provide captive-hatched birds. Operation Migration rears the chicks and trains them to follow special ultralight aircraft sounds. They are never exposed to human voices or see humans other than in special costumes designed to look like cranes.

Carol I just stumbled on this I love it! I want to be able to get a chance to watch a migration of any kind again some day. My husband & I were driving from Virginia to Dover, Delaware one time and witnessed several HUGE flocks of what I think were Snow Geese in the Chincoteague area. I think it was in 2003 or 2004, it was in the fall. I had a 4 megapixel HP850 with a 8Xoptical zoom but was unable to capture any good shots. I wasn't really deep into photographing birds & nature at the time or I would have had my husband try to follow them. HE WOULD HAVE LOVED THAT LOL Anyway I will check this album out. I found your info on this shot very interesting. Hugs, Bonnie in Virginia
