American Redstart (Setophaga ruticilla)
joemorlan > albums > Ohio-Crane Creek May 2007
Album Info:
15 May 2007 - Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ohio These active little birds remind me of bright butterflies. This was one of the most common migrant warblers on our recent visit to Ohio. They are also one of the later migrants with the main push in late May. The males take two years to acquire the full black and red plumage. The first year males look more like females. This is the sole member of the genus "Setophaga" and no subspecies are recognized. Photo is uncropped. Canon PowerShot S3 IS 12x
