18 May 2007 - Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ohio This was a common ground feeder in the area. Most of the birds we saw were white-striped morph birds such as this. Tan-striped morphs were less common. Both sexes can be either morph. They tend to pair with the opposite morph regardless of sex. Systematists call it "negative assortative mating." Another term is "opposites attract."
