Album Info:
Petunia is a trumpet shaped, widely-cultivated genus of flowering plants of South American origin, in the family Solanaceae. The popular flower got its name from French, which took the word petun 'tobacco' from a Tupi-Guarani language. Most of the varieties seen in gardens are hybrids (Petunia x hybrida). The origin of P. x hybrida is thought to be by hybridization between P. axillaris and P. integrifolia. Many open-pollinated species are also gaining popularity in the home garden. A wide range of flower colors, sizes, and plant architectures are available in both the hybrid and open-pollinated species.

These I can grow but they get very thirsty. There are some stunning colur varieties available now and I saw they were selling black ones this summer just gone.

Although I have always found them very pretty, I don't care for their fragrance. It would be different if they had none but they do & it isn't pretty in my opinion. This shot is very pretty though and I love the colors in it.

I love this shade of purple in the petunia! Thanks for the info in the caption. I didn't know this. I've had petunias of just about every color in my flower garden for years, but this year I only have about 6 petunias in a real pale lilac. I have had to cut back on flower gardening this year. Each year that I get older, I appreciate the Missouri Botanical Gardens even more for doing all the hard work of gardening for me to go out there and enjoy! :-) Hugs, Sharon

Lots of information with each image. It is most helpful for us amateur gardeners. Petunias seem to come in almost all col0ours and combinations of colour these days. Thanms for the 'purple shades'.

I love these flowers. This is the first year though that I did not get any planted. With the weather having been like it was and now Im going to be gone for a month I figured I would wait for this next year instead. A great three.

I love the old fashioned petunias. This is an inspiration to include them once again - I hadn't put any in the garden yet. Lovely purple too - Littlest would definitely approve! (she'd like our whole garden to be purple)
