Album Info:
The Frilled Neck Lizard is an amazing little reptile. It is also an Australian icon. They are between 70 to 90 cms long, and have a 'frill' around their head. When the lizard gets frightened, it opens its mouth and the frill is folded out. This is to make the lizard appear larger and is one of its defensive strategies against predators. The lizard can also run very fast, and it runs on its two hind legs. I have never seen one raise his frill or run and tehy are extremely difficult to spot in the wild as the hug trees and blend in perfectly

It looks so much like the iguanas that we see in Mexico on vacation. I love lizards and used to have them as pets when I grew up in the deserts of Arizona.

Ha, well done Marra! excelent shot Sandra!! Again, look at those strong claws.. hhmmm. My youngest is 16 in October and my eldest is 22 July 4, she has her house warming this weekend. Enjoy the 21st, a very special time.. it makes you look back to when they were born and think how has time flown by so quicky? My friends wedding is Sept 13 and there there is still a lot to prepare. I expect you are really looking forward to your big holiday and all the photos you will capture, and I look forward to them. These last 2 weeks of our term are always very busy, so much to do on top of everything else.

I've seen one of these in the wild up at Kalbarri - about 3 years ago. We were on a bus tour of the gorges (they are all dirt roads) when our driver pulled up sharply, jumped out of the bush, picked one of these up off a tree and brought it in to show us!! After which he put it back and the lizard carried on as though nothing had happened!!
