Album Info:
26 January 2007 - Dana Point, Orange County, California. The Glaucous Gull is a rare but regular winter visitor to California. This large, bulky gull seems to be a reasonable match for the 1st winter plumage of this species. There is a bit of dark along the cutting edge of the bill which is not common in Glaucous Gull, but may be within normal variation. If it's not a Glaucous Gull, then I'm not sure what other species or hybrid combination would produce a bird like this. Corrections always welcome. Olympus D-550z / Nikon FieldScope 3 / 30XWA (hand-held - no adapter).
