Album Info:

(DSC05160) At the Oceanarium "Laot" (Fishing Grounds): Reef Stonefish or "Sumalapaw" (Synanceia verrucosa) is found on sandy or rubble areas of reef flats in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Philippines. Also found in shallow lagoons and in small pools during low tide, well camouflaged among the substrate and sometime covered with algae. It may grow to a maximum length of 40 cm. (1.3 ft.), and feeds on fish and crustaceans. The stomefish is a carnivorous ray-finned fish with venomous spines that lives on coral reefs, around dull coloured algae, near or about rocks, or can be found dormant in the mud or sand, camouflaged as a rock. Stonefish can survive out of water for up to 20 hours. (Taken from the aquarium's adjacent signage)
