There may be a bit of an optical illusion but it is very steep scree. Certainly if you are approaching from Coledale the "shelf route" is a much pleasanter way up than the scree path from the hause. Where the shelf route joins the path all the difficulties are over - no scree and little steepness.

That really looks a long way down John especially with the mine far below. Is it really that steep or just an optical illusion. I cant remember the angle when I climbed up the main path (left side of photo) from the hause - just that it looked rough on the scree!
