The range (and the back boards for the targets are in a poor state of repair these days. A few years back I often used to hear shots from the range but not recently. Lawrie (the former United Utilities wildlife ranger) retired last year but he and his son have the contract to cull the deer in Thirlmere forest as necessary so I hear their shots from time to time but I don't think they use the range anymore.
