The Rainbow Bridge is an international steel arch bridge that spans the Niagara River, connecting the cities of Niagara Falls, New York, in the United States, and Niagara Falls, Ontario, in Canada. It is located downstream from the world-famous Niagara Falls and offers stunning views of the falls and the surrounding area. The bridge was officially opened in 1941, replacing the Honeymoon Bridge, which collapsed in 1938 due to ice buildup in the river. The Rainbow Bridge is primarily used for vehicle and pedestrian traffic, serving as a major crossing point between the two countries. It is named for the frequent rainbows that appear in the mist of the falls, adding to its picturesque setting. The bridge is approximately 1,450 feet (442 meters) long and 202 feet (62 meters) above the river. It features a central span of 950 feet (290 meters) and is supported by two massive concrete abutments. The structure is designed to handle a significant amount of traffic, facilitating tourism and trade between the U.S. and Canada. Travelers crossing the bridge must go through customs and immigration checks, as it serves as an international border crossing. The Rainbow Bridge is a popular spot for tourists who wish to experience the breathtaking views of Niagara Falls from both sides of the border.
